Tapper-Hicks Freedom 5K Run/Walk

On Saturday, April 23, 2016, the fourth annual Tapper-Hicks Freedom 5K Run/Walk will be held at American Legion post #311 in Atco, New Jersey. The event is held each spring in honor of PO1 (SEAL) David M. Tapper, USN and LCPL Jon T. Hicks, Jr., USMC. Money raised at the event will be used for their respective scholarship funds, as well as for The Waterford Township War Memorial Committee.

LCpl Leon B. Deraps Memorial Scholarship Walk/Run

On May 6, 2006, Lance Corporal Leon B. Deraps of Jamestown, Missouri made the ultimate sacrifice for his country while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. To honor Leon, his family (longtime Marine Parents pack day volunteers), along with the Moniteau County C-1, Jamestown-area high school FFA, set up a scholarship fund in his name in late 2006. Since its foundation, the fund has awarded $1,000 scholarships to more than 30 Jamestown high school graduates.

Money for the scholarship fund is raised through an annual 5 mile walk/run/ride held in early May. First held in 2009, 2016 marks the event's seventh anniversary. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 9:00 am in Jamestown, MO.

Families and friends will be able to share in the art of fishing, spend time together and experiencing the same joy that Jeramy came to know as a child.

Fourth Annual Jordan Beastean Remembrance Shindig and Ride

The Fourth Annual Jordan Beastean Remembrance Shindig and Ride will be held on October 17, 2015 in memory of LCpl. Jordan S. Bastean, who died October 23, 2011 while serving in Afghanistan.

This event will be a family fun day open to those who knew and loved Jordan and will be open to the support of the general public. The primary focus of the event is to raise funds that will be used to start a scholarship in Jordan's name at Pekin Community High School.

"Remembering Our Fallen" Wall/Photo Exhibition Tribute

The "Remembering Our Fallen" wall is a photo display sponsored by Bellevue University, located in Bellevue, Nebraska, that tours the country in honor of members of the military service who have died from wounds suffered in war zones since September 11, 2001.

In the Target wing of Columbia Mall in Missouri, from September 20 - October 4, MarineParents.com will host the "Remembering Our Fallen" exhibit which will include photos of and tributes to service members who have lost their lives since 9/11.

Captain Freeman

The Matthew Freeman Project™

Captain Matthew C. Freeman, 29, of Richmond Hill, Ga.; assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan; died Aug. 7, 2009 while supporting combat operations in the Shpee Valley, Afghanistan. He was awarded the Bronze Medal for his heroic actions during the combat that took his life.

The Matthew Freeman Project is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to the support of education in order to promote communities of promise, prosperity and peace throughout the US and the World.

3rd Annual LCpl. Layton Crass Memorial Bike Run

The third annual bike ride in memory of LCpl Layton Crass was held on July 21, 2013 in Richmond, IN. LCpl. Crass was killed in Afghanistan on June 14, 2008. This bike run was held to honor him, and his fellow warriors of 2nd Battalion/7th Marines who lost their lives or were wounded, in OIF 2007 and OEF 2008, and those who suffer from PTSD.

Daniel Wyatt Memorial

On October 12, 2004, Lance Corporal Daniel Wyatt was killed in action in Iraq. On March 1, 2011, the board of supervisors in Daniel's hometown unanimously passed a resolution to name a concession stand and ball diamond area within a local park after him. The resolution includes plans to place a memorial to Daniel, an avid baseball fan, in the park as well. Donations are being sought to make this memorial possible.

OIF and OEF Quilts

Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Quilts will be on display at the Mike Ocallaghan Federal Hospital, 4700 Las Vegas Boulevard North, Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada, May 27, 2010. An ending date for the display has not been determined as of yet.

"People hear what they see," is a phrase Elaine McDonald uses to explain the quilt project she started in April of 2004 to honor our nation's Fallen Heroes. When people see her quilts with individual squares to honor each troop killed in action, she hopes they will stop, think, feel and most of all, remember the sacrifices that have been made on their behalf.

Sgt. James McIlvaine Memorial Scholarship Fund

Mr. David Strong, a teacher at Massanutten Military Academy and a Marine, will be running the Marine Corps Half Marathon on May 16th, 2010 to raise more money for the Sgt. James McIlvaine Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be used for a young middle schooler or high schooler who needs to get their life back on track, but the parents may not be able to afford the school.

Sgt. McIlvaine died April 30, 2009 in Iraq while supporting combat operations in Anbar province, the Pentagon said. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Twentynine Palms, CA.

Cpl. Joshua C. Watkins

Cpl. Joshua C. Watkins Memorial Scholarship

Joshua was an ROTC student attended the University of North Florida for 3 years, before joining the Marines. he served two deployments in Iraq and was supposed to go a third time, but he was killed 9 days before he was to come home from his second deployment.

Jacksonville, Florida has several military bases. The scholarship is set up for military only; honorably discharged, active duty, reservists and ROTC students. We are currently funding 5 students: one is a 12 year veteran who is working full time and going to school full time, one served in the Navy for four years and is currently out and going to school full time, one is an ROTC student who is graduating 12/08 (this month) and has been accepted into an elite Navy SEAL program, one is an active duty Marine Sgt. (whose name happens to be Joshua), and one is an active Air guardsman. The last two mentioned have both served two tours in Iraq.

Lance Corporal Christopher J. Dyer, a 2004 graduate of Princeton High School (Cincinatti, Ohio) was killed in Iraq on August 3. 2005, while a member of 1st squad, 3rd platoon, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines. John and Kathy Dyer and their daughters Sarah and Laura presented the first scholarship in May, 2006. Sarah was in Marine Corps Bootcamp at the time of the presentation.

These are the words of Andrew Bateman. His friend and cousin Captain Philip J. Dykeman USMC was killed in Iraq June 26, 2008. Phil died at the young age of 38 leaving behind his wife of almost 10 years, 3 children - Austin, 9; Emilee, 6 and Ashlee, 6 - and an extended family stretching across the country that miss him dearly with every passing day. 'Captain Phil', as his troops called him, served as a Marine for 17 years. His service took him to over 20 countries across the world. Captain Dykeman gave his life for our Country and now it is time to give back.
